School of Economics Liaoning University formerly called as School of Economic management Liaoning University was established in 1984, which was one of schools that had been established comparatively early in our country. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Northeast School of Finance and Economics established in 1952. In 2001, it was known as School of Economics Liaoning University. In 2004, with the involving of original School of International Economics it form School of Economics which ranks as the largest scale in running school in Liaoning University.
Our school now has 7 undergraduate majors including Economics, National Economic Management, Public Finance, Statistics, Finance, International Economics and Trade, Insurance. It has 3 first-class discipline doctoral degree authorized units and master's degree authorized units— Theoretical Economics, Practical Economics, and Statistics; 21 second-class discipline doctoral degree authorized units and 22 second-class discipline master's degree authorized units; 3 Post-doctoral Mobile Research Station— Theoretical Economics, Practical Economics, and Statistics; two national key disciplines –National Economic,Finance; one key national teaching base called” national economics talent training base in Liaoning University ”; one national characteristic specialty construction site of Common Institutes of Higher Learning in China—Economics; one national talents training mode innovation experimental area—Liaoning university national experimental area of Economics basic training mode innovation; 2 first-class at the provincial level key disciplines—theoretical economics, applied economics; one provincial key researching base of humanities and social sciences called Northeast China researching center (A category);one provincial collaborative innovation center—open to the Northeast Asia region collaborative innovation center."Political Economy" is the first batch of "national excellent courses" which has 4 “provincial excellent courses”: Political Economy (2004), Western Economics(2005), "International Trade" (2006), and Management of National Economy (2007); Economics, Public Finance, National Economic Management and Finance are professional demonstrations in Liaoning province.
The well-known Chinese economist, professor of Cambridge University, Song Zexing is the founder of Economics. A group of “Cheung Kong Scholar” specially-appointed professors, “Talents in the New Century “awarded by Chinese Ministry of Education, famous teachers of national teaching level are working in our school.
Our school has a strong academic atmosphere with abundant research achievements which have a positive impact on national and local economic construction. Our professors have participated in formulating the outline of reconstruction and revitalization of Liaoning old industrial base, its medium-term planning, and other important documents. Many of these research results have caused great influence in both inside and outside the province. Our school has set nearly 20 scientific research institutions including: research center of revitalizing northeast China; research center of revitalizing Liaoning; institute of Liaoning local debt; institute of international finance, soft science research and consulting center, foreign economic theory research center and regional economic research center, etc.
Our School has actively involved itself in international academic exchange activities. Experts from America, Germany, Japan and other countries have been invited to give lectures, including Nobel Prize winner Professor Mundell. There are also students and visiting scholars sent to America, Japan and European countries to further their study and give lectures. Our school has established an extensive inter-School exchange relationship with the United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea, etc.
