The School of Continuing Education of Liaoning University originated from the former College of Adult Education of Liaoning University. In 2019, the party committee of the university decided to abolish the name of the College of Humanities and Science of Liaoning University. On this basis, the school-running business of the Adult Education School was integrated, and the college was formally named as the School of Continuing Education.

School of Continuing Education is a teaching institution that carries out continuing education in the university, specifically undertaking the business of adult higher education, self-taught higher education examinations assistance and other non-degree continuing education training.

Relying on Liaoning University's abundant faculty and high-quality hardware facilities, the college has always taken cultivating talents and serving the society as the top priority of the college's operation, accumulating experience and establishing a good reputation throughout the province and even the country.

The college has a complete range of education types, including academic education covering self-study examination and adult higher education, and the teaching forms are divided into full-time, part-time and correspondence. The non-academic continuing education covers party and government cadres training, enterprise and institution training, industry training, language training, vocational qualification training, vocational skills training and other forms.
