The College of Communication of Liaoning University was established in 1997, and its predecessor was the Department of Radio and Television, which was established in 1994. The college has a strong faculty and a large number of full-time faculty members with reasonable academic structure and rich industry experience. The talent training mode has prominent characteristics and obvious academic advantages.
The college is one of the first universities in China to have a master’s degree in Drama，Film & Television, and a master’s degree in Arts (Broadcasting and Television, Film). At present, there are two undergraduate majors in Broadcasting，Film & TV Editing and Directing, Broadcasting & Hosting Art, which mainly cultivate professionals who can be engaged in journalists, editors, broadcasters, hosts, film and television production, teaching, scientific research and management. The college has more than 5000 graduates, which are distributed in the central and provincial and municipal broadcasting stations, as well as domestic and foreign film and television production and management departments. In recent years, the college’s teachers, students and graduates have successively made a series of important professional achievements in their respective fields, which have been widely praised by the industry and academia. In 2021, the major of Broadcasting & Hosting Art was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site. In 2022, the major of Broadcasting, Film & TV Editing and Directing was approved as a first-class undergraduate demonstration major in Liaoning Province.
The college has a “Modern Media Art & Technology Experimental Center” as the undergraduate experimental teaching demonstration center of ordinary colleges and universities in Liaoning Province, and a “New Liberal Arts Media Integration Experimental Center” as the first laboratory cluster in Liaoning to build the core of perceptual intelligence frontier technology. There are scientific research institutions in this center，such as the Social & Cultural Development Research Center of Liaoning University, the Cultural Tourism Industry Research Base of Liaoning Province, the Liaoning TV Drama Research Center, the Himalayan Sound Research Institute of Liaoning University, the Cultural Tradition Research Institute of Liaoning University, and the Northeast Asia Audio-visual Communication & Cultural Exchange Research Institute of Liaoning University.
The “China·Shenyang International Youth Video Festival”, founded by the college in 2017, has been successfully held for six times, and has had a wide impact at home and abroad. The college also has innovation and entrepreneurship platforms such as Liaoning University Film & Television Creation Base, New V-Dimension Image Studio, New Ideas Creative Writing Studio, 201 Art Image & Integrated Media Studio. In addition, the college has also reached school enterprise cooperation with a number of media companies inside and outside the province to carry out in-depth integration of production and education. It has more than 20 off campus internship and training bases for practical activities and achieved good results.
The college adheres to the school running philosophy of “developing both morality and ability, advancing with skills, combining innovation and integration, and serving the society”, and in combination with the requirements of media development and the construction of new liberal arts in the era of all media, constantly improves the construction of professional curriculum system, and carries out the “project-driven cross type practical teaching” mode. Based on the college’s positioning and school running characteristics, the college relies on “one festival” (China - Shenyang International Youth Video Festival), “one film” (the creation of high-quality film dramas), “one place” (the film and television creation base of Liaoning University), and “one studio” (the New V-Dimension Video Studio) carried out multi-level teaching and practice activities.
The college has established learning-credit exchange, teacher visit and research, and academic exchanges with overseas universities, such as Taiwan Shih Hsin University, Bangkok Thonburi University, Teesside University in the United Kingdom, St. Petersburg National University of Film and Television in Russia, Belarusian State University, and Josai International University in Japan, enriching the scope and fields of running schools.
The college has always taken morality cultivation as the fundamental task of talent cultivation, based in Liaoning province, radiating to the Northeast and facing the whole country, giving full play to its professional expertise and regional advantages to promote the revitalization and cultural development of the Northeast.
