School of Economics of Liaoning University, formerly called as School of Economics and Management, was established in 1984. It is one of the earliest schools of Economics and (Management) established in China. Its history can be dated back to 1952 when it was known as the Northeast School of Finance and Economics. In 2001, it was renamed as School of Economics in Liaoning University. Our school of Economics was set up which ranks as the largest scale in running school in Liaoning University today.
Currently the School has seven undergraduate majors including Economics, National Economic Management, Public Finance, Statistics, Finance, International Economy and Trade, and Insurance. It has three first-class discipline doctoral degree authorized units and master's degree authorized units — Theoretical Economics, Practical Economics, and Statistics; 21 second-class discipline doctoral degree authorized units and 22 second-class discipline master's degree authorized units; three post-doctoral research stations — Theoretical Economics, Practical Economics, and Statistics; two national key disciplines –National Economics and Finance; one key national teaching base called National Economics Talent Training Base in Liaoning University; one national characteristic specialty construction site of Common Institutes of Higher Education in China — Economics; one national talents training mode innovation experimental area — innovation national experimental area of economics basic talents training mode in Liaoning University; two first-class at the provincial level key disciplines — Theoretical Economics and Applied Economics; one provincial key researching base of humanities and social sciences called Northeast China Promotion Research Center (A category); one provincial collaborative innovation center — open to the Northeast Asia region collaborative innovation center. Political Economics is the first batch of “national excellent courses” which has four “provincial excellent courses”: Political Economics (2004), Western Economics (2005), International Economy and Trade (2006), and National Economic Management (2007); Economics, Public Finance, National Economic Management and Finance are model disciplines in Liaoning Province.
Liaoning University is one of the 100 key universities in the 21st Century designated by the Chinese government. In September this year, the Applied Economics of Liaoning University, was selected as one of the world-class disciplines constructed by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is the only one school and discipline that won this award in the northeastern region of China.
