College of Information of Liaoning University located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province was founded in 1984 under the name Department of Computer Science. It got its name of Department of Computer Science and Technology in combination with Computer Application Institute of Department of Physics in 1986. On October 18, 1999, School of Information Science and Technology came into being after its integration with Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Science and Technology and Department of Information Management and Information Technology. Later in 2007 it was renamed as School of Information.
The school now has 83 staffs, including 71 full-time teachers, 11 of whom are professors and 29 are associate professors with 25 Ph.D., and 8 Ph.D. candidates. The school has five bachelor degree programs of Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Communication Engineering , Information Management and Information System, two master degree programs of Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering, one professional master degree program of software engineering, and one PhD program of Big Data Statistic and Intelligent Computing. In addition, the school possesses Liaoning Laboratory of Information System of Public Opinion and Network Security, Liaoning Engineering Laboratory of Big Data System of Public Opinion and Network Security, Institute of Computer Applications, National Computer Rank Examination Center, and Electrical & Electronic Experimental Center. The total enrollment of undergraduate students and graduate students each year is 1800.
The main research of the school includes database theory and technology, network technology and application, information management system, computer graphics and image processing, embedded system etc. The school has undertaken 40 research projects of national natural science fund, national MOE fund, and Liaoning province natural science fund. At the same time, it has published over 200 papers on national and international academic journals and conferences. The students have got 10 national prizes and 40-odd provincial awards, while teachers have won 1 first (prize) and 3 third (prize) for the provincial science and progress. prize.
