College of Liberal Arts Liaoning University was founded in 1953. In the early period of our establishment two well-known professors，Mr. Wu Boxiao and Mr. Zhang Zhenze, had already taught here in our college. College of Liberal Arts consists of two departments: Department of Chinese and Department of Arts and Design，plus two undergraduate majors：Chinese language and literature ，designology，among which Chinese language and literature of the college was selected as the dominant major with its own excellent characteristics of Liaoning Province and the major of innovative and entrepreneurial reform experimental units of Liaoning Province，and it is ranked as the first in provincial comprehensive assessment，which was bestowed as the best major. Cultural and Creative Educational Base of Liaoning University was ensconced and designed for the college students to receive practice and training outside school. The college has the doctorate authorized unit of Chinese language and literature as a first level discipline，including 7 doctorate authorized units as secondary disciplines such as literary theory，linguistics and applied linguistics，Chinese philology，Chinese ancient philology，Chinese ancient literature，Chinese modern and contemporary literature，literature communication and media culture. The college also has 8 degree authorized units of academic master and Master of Fine Arts ,such as literary theory，Chinese ancient literature，Chinese modern and contemporary literature，Chinese ancient philology，folklore，Chinese minority language and literature，linguistics and applied linguistics，Chinese philology. On top of all the above-mentioned, the college also has a post-doctoral research station of Chinese language and literature as the dominant and distinctive major of Liaoning Province. There are 68 members of the faculty and staff in the college，including 18 professors and 14 associate professors，of whom 8 doctoral supervisors are included. Among all the faculties，8 teachers have won Lu Xun Literature Award，National Model Teachers，title of Vice Director of China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Committee，New Century Excellent Talents，Lecturers of Open Video Courses of Ministry of Education and so forth，respectively. Many research institutions are stationed here，such as Liaoning Literature Association，Liaoning Linguistic Association，Liaoning Aesthetic Association and Liaoning Folklore Institute. The college established a national experimental center for liberal arts and a provincial chief research base for humanities and social sciences; they are China Literary Thought Research Center and Liaoning Cultural Industry and Cultural Creativity Research Base. The college has established a goodwill and exchange relationship with some of the research institutions，among which are University of Toyama，Nanyang Technological University of Singapore，Irkutsk State University of Russia，Australian National University，Shih Hsin University of Taiwan in China.“Literatus’ demeanour never fall.” is the college’s educational philosophy. Following the word “Graceful Calligraphy，Beautiful Writing，Witty Remark，and Learned and Refined Elegance” as aphorism, our college is heading towards the leading position in similar discipline of the country.
