According to the Notice on the Selection of the Second National Innovation Pioneer Award from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Chinese Science and Technology Association, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the SASAC of the State Council, through the publicity process by Chinese Science and Technology Association, our president Prof. Pan Yishan won the Second National Innovation Pioneer Award, which is the first major breakthrough of our university’s science and engineering disciplines at the national-level awards, and also a landmark achievement in the implementation of the major measures of the “Science and Technology Revitalization Plan”.
Prof. Pan Yishan has long been engaged in research on rock burst, one of the most serious dynamic disasters encountered in coal mining. When rockburst occurs, coal and rock structures, such as underground roadways, coal face and others, would be destroyed instantly, which always result in casualties and equipment damages, thus it is recognized as a global difficulty of mining safety. Since the 1980s, Prof. Pan Yishan has been deeply involved in the dangerous mines with rockburst by examining the scene. Focusing on the practical problems on the spot, he systematically carried out research on the mechanism and predictive prevention technology of rockburst, proposed the theory of coalmine rockburst disturbance response instability, and developed a set of complete technologies for coal mine rockburst prediction and prevention, key technology for integrated prediction and prevention of deep dynamic disasters in coal and gas outburst mines, and rockburst prevention and energy absorbing support technology in roadways. Over the years, he has successively obtained many grants from National 973 Project, Major Program of National Natural Science Foundation, National Science and Technology Support Plan, National Natural Science Foundation, Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation and Liaoning Province Joint Fund, Liaoning Innovation Team Project, etc.. Moreover, he also won National Science and Technology Progress second prize (ranked 1st), presided over and participated in the formulation of 6 national standards, obtained 27 authorized invention patents (the first inventor), published 65 SCI / EI papers as the first or corresponding author (one of which was named as the 100 most influential domestic academic papers) and two academic works (one monograph and one editor-in-chief). Furthermore, his research results have achieved good social and economic benefits after popularized and applied in the rockburst mines nationwide. As the leader of experts team, he presided over the preparation of Details on the Prevention and Control of Rockburst in Coal Mine and Guidebook for the Supervision and Administration of Rockburst in Coal Mine (for trial implementation), which were implemented in all rockburst mines around the country by all supervisory departments, and have received good results and high evaluation by the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety.
