Ministry of Education Conducts Research Activities on LNU’s Work with International Students Studying in China

On Oct. 31th 2023, a team conducted research activities on Liaoning University’s work with international students studying in China. The team comprised  Zheng Han, Deputy Division Chief of the Division of Students’ Studying in China of the MOE, Feng Fan, officer of Department of Moral Education of the MOE, Jin Quanyuan, Dean of College of International Education of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Qin Shanghai, Secretary of Haide College of Ocean University of China, Luan Fengchi, Dean of former College of International Education of China University of Petroleum (East China), and Xia Yunyang, officer of China Education Association for International Exchange. The research conference was also attended by Han Dongmei, Division Chief of the Division of International Exchanges of the Educational Department of Liaoning Province and Pang, Shuting, a level four researcher from the department. Yu Miaojie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of LNU met the members of the research team at Chongshan Campus of LNU.


 

 

The conference was hosted by Han Dongmei, Division Chief of Division of the International Exchanges of the Educational Department of Liaoning Province. She introduced the members of the research team and expressed her warm welcome and sincere thanks for their guidance on the work of international students studying in China in Liaoning Province.


 

 

Zheng Han, Deputy Division Chief of the Division of Studying in China of the MOE, delivered a speech stressing that the visit in Liaoning Province reflected General Secretary Xi Jinping’s ideas on strengthening the management of international students who study in China. With extensive research in 75 institutions of higher education in 19 provinces, the research aims at improving the management of international students and promoting standardized management to enhance educational quality. Experts in the team hoped to discuss and find solutions in terms of the problems they found during the research in a way that would transform the negative effects triggered by the epidemic into opportunities.

 

 

Huo Chunhui, Vice President of LNU, extended a sincere welcome to the leaders from the MOE on behalf on the whole school and introduced LNU’s founding history, development path, disciplines and programs as well as the construction of the “Double First-Class” disciplines.

 

   

 

 

He briefed the attendees on LNU’s work with international students studying in China in terms of its history and current status, its work philosophy, the mix of international students studying in LNU, and the policies and financial support applied to them. He noted that with a long history in launching international students’ recruitment, LNU had harvested an array of achievements after years of hard work and exploration, seeking to establish a unique ‘Voice of Liaoning University’ and tell the ‘Story of Liaoning University’ well. Huo Chunhui continued that in carrying out its international work, Liaoning University stays committed to actively implementing national development strategies, serving national the Belt and Road Initiative and the export-oriented development needs of Liaoning Province. By combining the national strategy of comprehensive revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China and the “Double First-Class” construction, Liaoning University works to build a new landscape that is more comprehensive, broader, more hierarchical, and more active concerning the education of international students in China.

Huo Chunhui also made a detailed report on international students’ recruitment, training, national education, and the management team and internet public sentiment, adding that LNU has provided financial support to international students according to the requirements of China and the Educational Department of Liaoning Province. Using different diagrams, he presented LNU’s current situation of international students by country of origin, programs and source of funds. In training international students, LNU is constantly improving the training program of international students while striving to cultivate high-level international talents by utilizing first-class disciplines. The national education system in LNU has also been established with the combination of classes of national education, teaching materials, teaching activities, knowledge competitions, lectures on Chinese culture and extracurricular social activities. LNU also adopts a three-level management structure to define management responsibilities and strengthen team building, forming a work pattern that involves foreign affairs, student management and academic affairs.

Finally, Huo Chunhui outlined the challenges that face the school from post-epidemic recruitment, informatization and intelligent construction to standardized management of international students. He underlined that the school is clear about its rectification measures and will do its best to improve the educational level of international students studying in China in a comprehensive way while providing a sound environment for them to live and study.


 

 

 

Ma Shuang, Director of International Exchanges Department, Qu Yi, Deputy Director of International Exchanges Department, Jiang Tao, Dean of Institute of International Education, Tian Yufen, Secretary of the CPC committee of Institute of International Education, Yu Guotao, Deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of Institute of International Education, Zhao Chunqiu, Deputy Dean of Institute of International Education and Qiu Chang, Deputy Dean of Institute of International Education participated in the conference.


 

 

 

After the conference, President Yu Miaojie met the research team and discussed with team members the education and management of international students studying in China. In the afternoon, the research team had an interview with heads of relevant functional departments, departments responsible for students’ education, school counselors and some international students.
