On November 22, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the results of the 2023 academician election, electing a total of 74 academicians. Professor Pan Yishan, the Party Secretary of Liaoning University, was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in the Division of Energy and Mining Engineering.
Professor Pan Yishan has been engaged in the research of coal mine dynamic ground pressure control since 1984. He has made systematic and pioneering achievements in the theory of dynamic ground pressure occurrence, control techniques and equipment, and engineering applications. He proposed the theory of dynamic ground pressure disturbance response instability and successfully tackled key technical challenges in the control of shallow, deep, and high-gas coal mine dynamic ground pressure. He has developed a complete set of technologies and equipment for dynamic ground pressure prediction and control, key technologies and equipment for integrated prediction and control of dynamic ground pressure and gas outburst disasters, as well as energy-absorbing support technologies and equipment for dynamic ground pressure protection. He has received three Second Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Awards as the first author.
As team leader, he has led the compilation of the Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Coal Mine Dynamic Ground Pressure and the Supervision and Inspection Manual for the Prevention and Control of Coal Mine Dynamic Ground Pressure, which are implemented in all dynamic ground pressure mines nationwide. He has been granted 41 invention patents and has published over 80 SCI/EI papers as the first or corresponding author, three of which were selected as among the top 100 most influential academic papers in China. He has formulated and released six national standards on dynamic ground pressure and authored the book Coal Mine Dynamic Ground Pressure with a million words. He is the chief editor of Engineering of Dynamic Ground Pressure, which is a textbook used by undergraduate and graduate students in 19 universities in China.
Professor Pan Yishan is a leading expert of national talent programs, a national-level candidate of the ‘New Century Talent Project’, and an outstanding talent of the ‘Liaoning Revitalization Talent Plan’. He has been honored as a national outstanding scientific and technological worker. In addition, he has received the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievements twice, the 2nd National Innovation Pioneer Award, the 14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and the Energy Award of the 31st Sun Yueqi Energy Science and Technology Award, among other honors.
