LNU Team Wins Championship at the 7th Northeast University Moot Court Invitational Competition

From April 20 to 21, 2024, the 7th Northeast University Moot Court Invitational Competition, co-hosted by the Law School of Jilin University and Wintell & CO Law Firm, was held at Jilin University. The competition invited 12 well-known law schools from the Northeast region, including Jilin University, Liaoning University, Northeast Normal University, and Heilongjiang University. After intense competition in the group stage and semi-finals, the representative team from Liaoning University defeated the representative team from Jilin University in the final to win the championship. Pei Wanting, a member from the LNU team, won the ‘Best Debater Award’. This is the best result LNU’s team has achieved in the competition.




 

Introduction to the competition

The Northeast University Moot Court Invitational Competition is the first regional intercollegiate league in the Northeast region aimed at fostering bilateral exchanges among regional law schools. It aims to enhance the comprehensive qualities of law students, strengthening legal professional skill training, and helps assess the level of legal education and application in schools. It also helps lead reforms and development in higher legal education in the Northeast, promoting experiences in legal practice teaching, thus providing an excellent platform for optimizing legal education resources in the Northeast and cultivating outstanding legal talents, and nurturing future top-tier elite professionals in the field of law.




Team Composition

The LNU team at the 7th Northeast University Mock Court Invitational Competition consisted of Professor Cao Jinqiu and Associate Professor Guo Jinliang from the Law School of Liaoning University as the faculty advisors, and with teacher Hou Bowen as the team leader. The participating team members were Wang Jun, Xu Tianyu, Zhang Yuanzi, Li Jiale, Zhao Yuqing, Pei Wanting, Song Yupu, and Li Chengyi, all majoring in Law from the 2021 and 2022 classes.




Competition Process

After a month of intense preparations, team members of the LNU team gave up a significant amount of valuable spare time and fully immersed themselves in the preparations. During the courtroom debate segment, the team members calmly and confidently addressed the contentious issues of the case and legal application, showcasing their solid legal knowledge, sharp logical thinking, and exceptional debating skills. They engaged in thought-provoking discussions and clashed with intellectual prowess.



 


Over the years, with the care and encouragement of the University, students and faculty from the Law School of Liaoning University have participated in various national large-scale moot courtroom competitions multiple times, achieving outstanding results. This fully demonstrates the Law School of Liaoning University's emphasis on practical application of legal knowledge, promoting learning through competition, fostering teaching through competition, and fostering strength through competition. In the future, the Law School of LNU will continue to cultivate students' creative thinking, constantly improve students' comprehensive abilities, and strive to excel, stand at the forefront, and bravely compete to showcase the elegance of students from LNU's Law School in competitions.
