The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Chinese Economic Working Group Meeting will be held from August 22 to 23, 2024, at Liaoning University (LNU). The meeting will focus on discussing cutting-edge issues in the fields of macroeconomics and finance. It is hosted by Liaoning University and organized by the Division of Economics and the School of Finance and Trade.
The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) was founded by renowned economist Wesley Mitchell in 1920. It is a private, non-profit, non-partisan research institution and also the largest economic research organization in the United States. The organization is committed to promoting cutting-edge investigation and analysis of major economic issues to advance a deeper understanding of economic operations. Its members come from a wide range of fields such as government, business, and academia, including more than 1,300 economics and business school professors who teach in North American universities. They all enjoy a high reputation in their respective academic fields. To this day, 44 current or former NBER research branches and board members have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, including Paul Samuelson, Kuznets, James Tobin, Joseph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman, Claudia Golding, and others. In addition, several NBER researchers have also held important positions in the US Presidential Council of Economic Advisers.
Holding the conference at LNU demonstrates the full recognition and support of the international academic community for the achievements of Liaoning University’s applied economics discipline construction, and provides an excellent platform for further promoting the in-depth development of international exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. It will vigorously promote new breakthroughs in the high-quality construction of ‘Double First Class’ initiative of Liaoning University.
