On the morning of October 24, Liaoning University (LNU) held the opening ceremony of the 2024 New Faculty Orientation. Yu Miaojie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of LNU, attended the ceremony and gave the first report. Vice President Shi Baodong attended and delivered a speech. A total of 79 inducted teachers attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Shengqiang, the Director of the Personnel Department.
Yu Miaojie gave his first special report for inducted teachers in 2024. He shared his personal growth experience with inducted teachers from the perspectives of the role positioning, career development path, and how to realize personal value in teaching, research, and service of university teachers in the new era. He delved into five dimensions of how universities can enhance student recognition, professor contribution, high-quality think tank construction, social reputation, and international influence. He pointed out that inducted teachers should regard the educational work of Liaoning University as their lifelong career pursuit, actively integrate into the development of world-class disciplines in the school and achieve resonance between the school's career and personal development. He added that the sense of ownership should be upheld, alongside boosting the spirit of work and entrepreneurship, establishing a sense of responsibility of ‘eing proud of the prosperity of the university’ and making the school truly a stage for one's career and a spiritual home. Also, teachers should practice teaching skills diligently, cultivate the wisdom of enlightening and nurturing students' hearts, and teach them according to their aptitude, enhance their educational and teaching abilities, and increase the attractiveness and infectiousness of the classroom.
Teachers should devote themselves to scientific research, keep up with the forefront of academia, broaden their academic horizons, learn from the main battlefield of social and economic development and strive to achieve a positive interaction between scientific research and teaching. They should enhance the ability to serve society, adhere to the ‘four orientations’, focus on real problems in national strategies and social reality scenarios, overcome difficulties, and contribute to social and economic development. They must strictly abide by teaching discipline and academic norms, adhere to the principle of no forbidden areas in academic research and disciplined classroom teaching, respect the profession and the classroom, and truly shoulder the responsibility and mission of ‘cultivating virtue and educating people’.
Yu Miaojie emphasized that all departments of the school should strengthen the institutionalization construction, increase the policy guarantee for serving the growth of teachers, achieve the openness of information policies, the convenience of handling procedures, the timely handling of feedback, and better optimize the atmosphere for teachers' learning, growth, and doing things and starting an undertaking. Teachers should promote the reform of ‘simplifying administration and delegating power, combining regulation with decentralization, and optimizing services’ in LNU. Teachers' opinions and suggestions should be integrated into daily management and service work. Teachers should not pass the buck and shirk responsibility. They should take initiative, jointly solve problems encountered, and continuously improve the level of refined management and services to help teachers grow and succeed.
Shi Baodong delivered a speech at the ceremony. He expressed a sincere welcome to all inducted teachers and went into details about the outstanding achievements of the school in talent attraction and education. He elaborated on the importance of teacher training in improving the overall quality of the teaching staff and promoting the development of the school's education. He emphasized that inducted teachers should cherish training opportunities, abide by learning discipline, complete role transformation as soon as possible, scientifically plan their careers, and spare no effort in striving for the high-quality development of Liaoning University.
At the ceremony, Yu Miaojie and Shi Baodong presented training completion certificates to the representatives of teachers who joined in 2023.
The heads of relevant functional departments such as the Graduate Department of the Party Committee, the Academic Affairs Office, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology Institute, the Finance and Accounting Office, and the Office of Strategic Planning and Discipline Planning attended the opening ceremony.
