According to Xinhua News Agency, on the evening of November 8, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian President Sergio Mattarella jointly met with representatives from both sides attending the China-Italy Cultural Cooperation Mechanism Conference and the Dialogue between Chinese and Italian University Presidents in Beijing. The two heads of state heard reports from representatives of both sides on China-Italy cultural and university cooperation between. On the morning of November 9, the China-Italy University Presidents’ Dialogue was held at Peking University to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and deepen educational exchanges and cooperation. The dialogue was hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the University of the Republic of Italy, and the Ministry of Research, and organized by Peking University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. With the theme of “promoting mutual reference of civilizations and cultivating outstanding talents”, two parallel forums and a parallel student forum were set up to jointly explore the cooperation, collaborative innovation, high-level talent cultivation models, and sustainable development future of higher education between China and Italy.
Huai Jinpeng, Minister of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Jie, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Marcella Gargano, General Director of the University and Ministry of Scientific Research of the Republic of Italy, An Guidi, Counsellor of Science and Technology of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in China, and other government officials of the two countries, as well as presidents and scholar representatives of nearly 50 Chinese and Italian universities, attended the dialogue. At two parallel forums, Chinese and Italian representatives communicated their thoughts and engaged in in-depth exchanges around two core themes: “Civilization Inheritance and Innovation-The Future Mission of Higher Education” and “Talent Cultivation and Technological Innovation-Opportunities and Challenges for International Cooperation”. They jointly explored feasible paths for cultivating high-quality talents in the new era and international solutions to address the challenges of technological innovation in the digital age, to provide intellectual support for China-Italy higher education cooperation.

Yu Miaojie delivered a speech titled “The Mission of Universities and the Future of Sino-Italian Educational Cooperation” at the parallel forum on “Civilization Inheritance and Innovation-The Future Mission of Higher Education”. He emphasized that in the context of globalization and technological change, the mission of universities is not limited to imparting knowledge, but more importantly, to cultivate future talents with a global perspective, innovative capabilities, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Education should focus on cultivating student’s critical thinking, perseverance, and ability to serve society. Yu Miaojie mentioned that the cooperation between Liaoning University (LNU) and Italian universities began in 1975 and has a history of nearly half a century, especially in the fields of academic and cultural exchanges, where significant achievements have been made. Among them, Mr. Macro Müller, internationally renowned Italian film producer and critic, the artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, attended LNU for further studies in 1975. And he played an important role in promoting Chinese films on the global stage.
