From November 22 to 24, 2024, the final of the 10th Chinese Undergraduate Physics Experiment Tournament came to an end at Beihang University. The project ‘Determination of Moment of Inertia of Rigid Bodies’, launched by students Zhang Tianyi, Bian Tao and Yin Chuanhao from School of Physics of Liaoning University won the first prize in the competition.

The tournament was hosted by the Organizing Committee of China Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition and China Experimental Physics Teaching Research Association of Colleges and Universities and was undertaken by Beihang University. 15,715 teachers and students in 2,755 teams from 667 colleges and universities registered for the preliminary competition and the top 15% projects were qualified to the final. More than 1,400 teachers and students in 548 teams from 280 colleges and universities participated in the offline final. Only nine teams from colleges and universities in Liaoning Province had the qualification for the offline final. The competition result represented the best achievement in the physics competition for the discipline at the school.

Liaoning University attached great importance to the competition. Physics teachers Li Yongqing and Liu Shixing served as judges in the preliminary contest while teacher Liu Wen served as the first instructor of the team and teacher Cao Shuo served as the team leader and instructor. During the preparation period, Zhang Meixia, Du Zeng, Guan Baijie and other teachers provided professional guidance for the students’ experiments.

The competition promoted the teaching and experimental work of physics at the school. It also stimulated students’ interest in physical science, enhanced their sense of teamwork and the ability to solve real problems, laying a foundation for the cultivation of high quality science and engineering talents.
