In order to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on strengthening work of popular science, carry forward the scientific spirit, and promote inter-school exchange and cooperation, on the afternoon of April 29, Professor Wang Guofa, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chief Scientist of China Coal Research Institute, participated in the activity themed as “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Scientists and Igniting the Dream of Science” for the Experimental School Affiliated to Liaoning University (LNU). He provided popular science education for primary and secondary school students. Pan Yishan, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Secretary of the CPC Committee of LNU, also attended the event.

Wang Guofa, Pan Yishan and their entourage successively visited the Cloth Art Exhibition Hall, Art Space Station and Xingzhi Space Station of the Affiliated Experimental School. They had cordial exchanges with the teachers and students who were having classes or carrying out club activities, and inquired in detail about the development of characteristic courses of intangible cultural heritage, aesthetic education characteristic courses and science and technology characteristic courses of the school. The two academicians listened to the introduction of the Affiliated Experimental School on its educational philosophy and practical education work. They expressed their affirmation and appreciation for the construction of characteristic and high-quality courses of the school. They interacted with the teachers and students and encouraged them to continuously enrich the connotation of the school culture construction and consolidate and inherit the school-running achievements of the school.

In the Yunyan Studio of the Affiliated Experimental School, Wang Guofa and Pan Yishan jointly unveiled the “Juvenile Academy of Sciences” of the affiliated school, helping the school strengthen the construction of campus scientific culture and creating a learning atmosphere that supports scientific exploration and innovation among teenagers. Student representatives presented handwritten letters to the two academicians, expressing their yearning for and love of science.

At the event site, Wang Guofa gave a special popular science lecture to the students titled Unveiling the Mysteries of the 'Sunstone' and Understanding Coal and Energy Mining. Focusing on revealing the mysteries of coal, known as the “sunstone”, he systematically introduced scientific knowledge such as coal exploration and development, clean utilization and transformation, and ecological protection and restoration in mining areas in a simple and understandable language, guiding the on-site teenagers to gain an understanding of energy and mining. Drawing on his own learning and growth experiences, he encouraged the students to study hard, cultivate their imagination and innovation abilities, broaden their knowledge horizons, and establish a scientific spirit and a sense of patriotism. He presented the popular science series of books that he presided over and compiled to the student representatives and took a group photo with the students in a friendly manner.

Xia Wei, a member of the Standing Committee and Deputy District Head of Shenbei New District, Li Quan, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Education Bureau of Shenbei New District, responsible comrades of the Party and Government Office, the Party Committee Publicity Department, and the Social Service Office of Liaoning University, as well as representatives of teachers and students of the Affiliated Experimental School participated in the activity.
