On May 23, 2025, the 63rd Higher Education Exposition grandly kicked off at the Northeast Asia International Expo Center in Changchun, Jilin Province. With the theme “Integration, Innovation and Leadership: Building China into a Leading Country in Education”, this expo was unprecedented in scale, effect and significance. It set up a Forum on “Building China into a Leading Country in Education, Reform and Development of Higher Education”, which focused on 11 themes including training virtuous talents in the new era, the development of Four News 2.0, cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, employment-oriented education, “Double First-Class” development and the evaluation and reforms of universities in the new era. Yu Miaojie, President of Liaoning University(LNU), attended the forum activities, namely “Changchun Initiative for Universities to Serve the All-Round Revitalization of Northeast China”.
At the event site, Yu Miaojie joined leaders from Jilin University, Northeastern University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northeast Normal University, Harbin Engineering University, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, Inner Mongolia Minzu University, Beihua University, Qiqihar University, and Yanbian University to jointly launch the initiative.
The initiative firstly aims to support and serve the high-quality development of the economy and society. The second is to accelerate the building the area into an important place for talents. The third is to build a highland of scientific and technological innovation with significant influence. The forth is to shape a characteristic ideological and cultural hub in Northeast China. The fifth is to forge a new ecosystem of regional collaboration among universities. The sixth is to promote exchanges and mutual learning among people through high-level opening-up.
Changchun Initiative represents a solemn commitment by universities in the three provinces and one autonomous region in serving national strategies. It is also an important mission in building China into a leading country in education and a pacesetter for forging an educational community with a shared future. Social services is an inherent requirement for universities to cultivate talents in socialist countries. LNU will firmly bear it in mind that serving Liaoning Province is serving the country. It will work hard to promote its “Double First-Class” development with a more comprehensive vision, opening up to wider areas, conducting deeper reforms and seeking development in a higher level. By doing so, it will contribute its efforts in the comprehensive revitalization of Liaoning Province and the Northeast China as China promotes Chinese modernization across the country.
