At the Lecture, against the backdrop of century-old changes, Yang Yufeng explained the historical context of global energy and political-economic pattern shifts, the basic laws of global energy transition, and the green, low-carbon, high-quality development process during China’s pursuit of its Two Centenary Goals. By interpreting the Energy Law of the People’s Republic of China, he focused on the construction of energy and strategic resource bases in the Yellow River’s J-shaped Bend region, elaborating on the importance of high-quality development and high-level protection in the Yellow River Basin.

Ge Chunhua, Dean of the College of Chemistry, and Xu Lianman, Associate Dean of the College of Environment, shared their learning insights and had an in-depth exchange with Yang Yufeng on issues such as the development of interdisciplinary fields integrating energy, economy, ecological environment, and climate change.

This lecture was hosted by the Institute of Science and Technology Research of Liaoning University. More than 150 faculty and student representatives from 10 science and engineering colleges, including the College of Chemistry and the College of Environment, as well as the College of Economics, attended the event.

Biography of the Keynote Speaker

Yang Yufeng is a Research Fellow at the Energy Research Institute of Peking University, Chief Scientist at the Peking University Ordos Energy Research Institute, and Head of the Research Direction on Energy Strategy and Carbon Neutrality Pathways. He earned his doctoral degree from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1999 and completed his postdoctoral research at the Energy System Analysis Laboratory of Tsinghua University’s Nuclear Research Institute in 2001. From 2001 to 2018, he worked at the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission (during which he was seconded to the Office of the National Energy Leading Group from 2006 to 2008). He served as a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Energy Charter Secretariat (2015), a Senior Visiting Scholar at Imperial College London (2017), and an Honorary Research Fellow (2018–2020). He has also acted as a senior consulting expert for international organizations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and Asian Development Bank (ADB). His research focuses on energy system analysis and strategic planning, optimization and simulation of “Double Carbon” (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) pathways, economic evaluation theories and methods for frontier and disruptive energy technologies, and multi-dimensional, multi-scale quantitative methodologies and integrated analysis platforms for energy-economy-ecological environment-climate change interactions.
