To thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, advance the development of “comprehensive ideological and political education,” and fulfill the fundamental task of training virtuous talents, on June 26, 2025, Jin Guowei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Publicity Department of the Liaoning Provincial Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Education Working Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication at Liaoning University (LNU), visited Liaoning University to deliver an ideological and political lecture titled “Cultivating Patriotism and Upholding the Ideals of Journalism” to the faculty and students. Pan Yishan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning University presided over the lecture.

Drawing on his early experiences in journalism, Jin Guowei encouraged students to cherish the opportunities of the times, diligently acquire professional knowledge, strengthen theoretical foundations, and practice their skills. During the lecture, he used rich historical materials and vivid case studies to recount how revolutionary leaders such as Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai remained steadfast in their commitment to revolution, serving the people, and rejuvenating China. He particularly highlighted the achievements since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, when the Party Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, had stayed true to its original aspirations, united and led the entire Party and people nationwide in overcoming challenges, forging ahead with determination, and achieving remarkable developmental successes. He emphasized that firm ideals, convictions, and deep patriotism form the spiritual lineage of Chinese Communists and should serve as the guiding light for the youth of the new era. The lecture provided an in-depth interpretation of the theoretical logic and practical pathways of Marxist views on journalism, stressing that journalism and communication professionals bear the historical mission of telling China’s stories well and making China’s voice heard.

When discussing the transformation of new media and career trends, Jin Guowei noted that journalism would not disappear, truth would never go out of style, and adhering to “content as key” remains crucial to the future of media. In an era of deep integration between mainstream and emerging media, journalists must uphold the professional ethics of truthfulness, rationality, and responsibility, striving to be communicators of news that is warm, profound, and impactful. He offered three pieces of advice at the lecture: first, he called on faculty and students to believe in the principle that hard work pays off, accumulating excellence in the ordinary; second, he suggested faculty and students committing to systematic reading, trusting that every book brings benefits; and third, he called for viewing AI with a clear perspective, remembering that good journalism is “earned through legwork.” He encouraged students to stay grounded, embrace practice, and integrate their ideals into the nation’s development and future, becoming journalists who embody patriotism, discern right from wrong, and uphold integrity.

Pan Yishan delivered concluding remarks. He noted that the Publicity Department of the Liaoning Provincial Committee had always attached great importance to the development of the School of Journalism and Communication, providing strong guidance and support that has significantly elevated the school’s overall educational standards. Director Jin Guowei’s lecture served not only as a profound lesson in ideological and political education but also as an inspiring lesson in Marxist views on journalism and a heartfelt encouragement for young students to strengthen their ideals and shoulder the responsibilities of the times. This fully demonstrated the high regard of the Provincial Party Committee for the development of Liaoning University, its strong support for the School of Journalism and Communication, and its sincere care for the growth of young students. Liaoning University will continue to advance the joint development of the journalism school with the provincial authorities, promote the synergy between ideological and political education and specialized curricula, and continuously improve the quality of journalism and communication talent cultivation. The goal is to establish the School of Journalism and Communication at Liaoning University as a training base for outstanding journalism and communication professionals, a talent hub for the news and publicity system and local universities, and a training center for professionals in the ideological and publicity sectors and journalism industry.
