Recently, the International Conference on Geohazard Mechanics in 2025 was successfully held at Liaoning Technical University in Fuxin, Liaoning Province. The conference was guided by the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering (CSRME) and the China Coal Society (CCS), hosted by the Geohazard Mechanics journal, and jointly organized by Liaoning Technical University, Liaoning University, the CSRME Professional Committee on Rockburst, the CCS Professional Committee on Prevention and Control of Coal Mine Dynamic Disasters, and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Major Mine Disaster Prevention and Environmental Restoration (co-established by provincial and ministerial authorities). It was co-organized by University of Science and Technology Beijing, the Institute of Geology, China Earthquake Administration, the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, the Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Mechanism and Prevention of Land Subsidence, China Coal Group Co., Ltd., Shandong Energy Group Co., Ltd., the Liaoning Earthquake Agency, the Shandong Earthquake Agency, Journal of China Coal Society, Rock and Soil Mechanics, Journal of Liaoning Technical University (Natural Science), and Journal of Green Mine.

With the theme “Building Bridges and Platforms Across Geohazards”, the conference was inaugurated with opening remarks by Cen Song, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Liaoning Technical University; Professor Pan Yishan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Liaoning University (LNU), and Conference Chair; Professor Ismet Canbulat of the University of New South Wales, Australia; and Zhang Da, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Natural Resources of Liaoning Province.

As the first cross-border academic event in China dedicated to geohazard mechanics, the International Conference on Geohazard Mechanics has established a high-level platform characterized by disaster prevention as the core, technological innovation as the driver, and global collaboration as the link. Its successful convening not only demonstrated, through its international journal Geohazard Mechanics, LNU’s disciplinary strength and international influence in geotechnical engineering through its international journal Geohazard Mechanics, but also built a bridge for global cooperation in disaster prevention and control. Going forward, the university will take this conference as an opportunity to work hand in hand with global peers to deepen academic exchanges, strengthen research collaboration, and jointly train professionals, thereby contributing wisdom and strength to building a globally coordinated geohazard prevention and control system.
