On the morning of August 24, the Award Ceremony of the 2025 “NewUp Bank” Bai Qinxian Scholarship of Liaoning University (LNU) was held in Conference Room 317 of the Administration Building at Puhe Campus. Yu Miaojie, President of LNU, Bai Qinxian, a renowned economist and financier as well as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in China’s Finance Discipline, and Yang Kexin, Secretary of the Disciplinary Inspection Commission and Secretary of the Board of Directors of NewUp Bank, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.

Yu Miaojie highly praised Professor Bai Qinxian’s remarkable achievements and his contributions in the field of finance. He emphasized that Professor Bai’s “Three Insights” philosophy of “seeing oneself, seeing the world, and seeing all beings” is not only a way of pursuing knowledge and engaging in academic research, but more importantly, a path to achieving self-reliance and self-strengthening in China’s academia. The establishment of the Bai Qinxian Scholarship aims to inherit the educational spirit of this academic master. It serves as recognition for students’ diligent study and courage in innovation, and more importantly, embodies the expectation for students to have a sense of national responsibility and strive to take on their missions. President Yu extended sincere congratulations to the award-winning students and put forward three initiatives: “tempering moral character and academic perseverance; expanding horizons, grasping laws, and courageously scaling new heights in academic pursuit; bearing the people in mind, serving the real economy, and contributing to the development of economy and society with the power of finance”. He encouraged the students to work hard with enthusiasm and move forward with determination. Meanwhile, he expressed sincere gratitude to NewUp Bank for its long-term care and support for the development of the university. He also expressed the expectation that both parties would continue to deepen cooperation, work together for shared development, and jointly cultivate outstanding talents.

Yang Kexin briefly introduced the specific measures of NewUp Bank’s cooperation with LNU in talent cultivation. He shared practical cases of LNU students participating in business operations, project research and analysis work at NewUp Bank during the summer vacation. He promised that NewUp Bank would continue to build a growth platform for LNU students, encouraging them to study diligently, integrate classroom theories with financial practice, and grow into pillars of the society. At the same time, he sincerely welcomed more LNU students to join the “Striver” team of NewUp Bank in the future.

Professor Bai Qinxian shared his precious experiences in teaching and scientific research, as well as his spirit of dedication to academic exploration and principles for conducting oneself. He compared the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western thoughts, pointing out that when engaging in economic research, one must adhere to the people-oriented principle, attach importance to close connections with social sciences such as history and philosophy, and uphold the integration of theory with practice. He emphasized the need for long-term commitment to research: only through years or even decades of consistent thinking and research can one gain the confidence and ability to promote economic theories and ideas. Professor Bai Qinxian also expressed his concern for the development of LNU’s educational cause. He stressed that conducting oneself is similar to doing research — both require perseverance and consistency. He expressed pride in having worked at LNU throughout his career. He encouraged the students to have a sense of dedication to their country, strive hard, be down-to-earth, guard against arrogance and impetuosity, and pursue truth by speaking the truth, doing practical things, and researching real-world issues.

Subsequently, President Yu Miaojie, Professor Bai Qinxian, and Secretary Yang Kexin jointly presented awards to the award-winning students.

Yan Boyu, a student from the School of Economics and recipient of the First-Class Scholarship, spoke on behalf of all award-winning students. He expressed high respect to Professor Bai Qinxian, gratitude to the university leaders and faculty members for their meticulous guidance, and thanks to NewUp Bank for its generous support. He stated that in the future, he will always stay down-to-earth, strive to pursue his dreams, and make every effort to give back to his alma mater and contribute to society.
