From October 24 to 26, 2025, the Liaoning Provincial Contest of 2025 “FLTRP·ICCC” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Competence Contest for College Students was successfully held at Liaoning University (LNU). The competition was organized by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, co-organized by the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for Foreign Language and Literature Majors, the Liaoning Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for College Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Beijing Waiyan Online Digital Technology Co., Ltd., and the China Foreign Language Assessment Center, and undertaken by the School of Foreign Studies of LNU (Puhe Campus). The closing ceremony was attended and addressed by Hu Chengbo, Director of the Higher Education Division of the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education; Lu Hui, Vice President of LNU; and Feng Tao, Director of the International Talent Development Center of FLTRP.


At the competition, the College of Foreign Studies was honored with the “Liaoning Provincial Outstanding Organization Award.” Additionally, faculty and students demonstrated profound expertise and exceptional competitive prowess, achieving historic results: both the quantity and quality of awards set the highest records since the School’s initial participation in the contest. With an overall ranking of first among all universities in the province, these accomplishments fully showcase the outstanding achievements of foreign language education of LNU.
This year’s competition, centered on the theme “Understanding China, Connecting the World,” guided participants to gain a profound understanding of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and to comprehend China’s path, governance, and underlying principles; to cultivate a sense of national identity and global perspective; to broaden intellectual horizons and deepen critical thinking; and to demonstrate comprehensive competencies including foreign language proficiency, cross-cultural communication, analytical skills, and innovative capabilities. The competition featured three main categories: the English Group, the Multilingual Group, and the International Chinese Group, covering a total of 11 languages, including English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and Korean. It attracted 1,124 student contestants and 20 teacher contestants from 62 universities across the province.
In the “Teaching Star” category of the teacher track, the teaching team composed of Zhao Qiunan and Du Juan from the School of Foreign Studies demonstrated exceptional pedagogical skills and groundbreaking instructional design, outperforming all competitors to claim the top provincial prize. As the only teaching team from Liaoning Province to advance to the national finals, they will represent the province on the national stage, showcasing the strong teaching capabilities of the School.The student track also delivered remarkable achievements. After intense competition, the students excelled in the announced categories, securing two gold medals in the Speech category, two gold medals in the Interpretation category, and three bronze medals in the Speech category. All four gold medalists have earned the opportunity to advance to the national finals, where they will compete against elite students from across the country as representatives of our province.
Leveraging the competition as a key opportunity, the university has further advanced the “Three Incorporations” initiative and innovated the model of integrating ideological and political education into curricula. Using the contest as a driving force, it has promoted the reform of foreign language education and evaluated teaching outcomes. Through the platform provided by the event, the university has helped present a credible, appealing, and respectable image of China, while showcasing the positive and striving spirit of Chinese youth. Achieving the top overall ranking in the province serves as a vivid demonstration of the College of Foreign Studies’ commitment to deepening foreign language teaching reform and implementing the philosophy of “using competitions to enhance teaching and learning.” This outcome underscores the school’s solid achievements in cultivating high-quality foreign language professionals and improving the standard of education.
