Recently, the final of the “2025 Liaoning College Student Smart Ocean Science and Technology Innovation Competition,” hosted by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, concluded successfully at Dalian Ocean University. Students from Liaoning University (LNU) won a total of two first prizes, one second prize, eight third prizes, and nine excellence awards, placing them among the top universities in the province in terms of both the quantity and quality of awards. This achievement fully demonstrates the effectiveness of the university’s talent cultivation in the field of scientific and technological innovation.

The Liaoning College Student Smart Ocean Science and Technology Innovation Competition is one of the innovation and entrepreneurship competition projects for higher education in Liaoning Province. It also serves as an academic exchange platform for innovation practices among universities, research institutions, and enterprises in the province. With the theme “Technology Empowers the Ocean, Innovation Leads the Future,” this year’s competition responded to the national “Marine Power” strategy and focused on the high-quality development demands of the marine economy. It attracted over 600 teams from 36 universities in the province, including Dalian University of Technology and Liaoning University, covering cutting-edge fields such as marine engineering, intelligent equipment, environmental monitoring, and big data applications. After institutional recommendations and provincial preliminary evaluations, 80 outstanding works advanced to the finals. Two projects from the university, “Submarine Cable Sentry System—A Silent Security Network Based on Distributed Fiber Optic Acoustic Sensing” and “Smart Blue Ocean—Water Quality Testing and Red Tide Risk Early Warning Platform,” comprehensively demonstrated their value through presentations and ultimately won first prizes.
The competition has provided valuable experience for the university to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reforms, enhance the quality of talent cultivation, and promote interdisciplinary integration. Undergraduate students from the School of Economics, School of Information, Light Industry College, College of Foreign Studies, and School of Physics within the university actively participated in this year’s competition.
