Yu Miaojie’s Book New Quality Productive Forces Selected as “Liaoning Quality Book”

Recently, the Liaoning Provincial Press and Publication Bureau announced the list of “Liaoning Quality Books” for the third quarter of 2025. Professor Yu Miaojie’s book New Quality Productive Forces: The Engine of Chinese Modernization, published by Liaoning University Press in July 2025, was successfully selected. 




As a companion to New Development Philosophy: The Foundation of Chinese Modernization, the book New Quality Productive Forces: The Engine of Chinese Modernization is grounded in the economic development practices of China in the new era. It provides an in-depth analysis of the theoretical connotations and practical pathways of new quality productive forces and systematically explains their core role in advancing Chinese modernization. The book combines policy insights with practical observations, offering valuable references for policymakers and guiding readers interested in China’s economic development to understand the path of economic transformation and upgrading in the new era. Through comprehensive and profound discussions, it strongly demonstrates the critical role of new quality productive forces as the engine of Chinese modernization, highlighting the bright prospects for high-quality economic development in China amid complex international environments. 






Author Profile



Yu Miaojie, born in 1976, is a Fellow of the International Economic Association (IEA), a Distinguished Scholar of National Talent Program, and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He serves as a Deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress, a member of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress, a special supervisor of the National Commission of Supervision, Vice President of the Liaoning Provincial Discipline Inspection and Supervision Association, and President of Liaoning University. He is also an economist ranked among the top 1% of highly cited scholars in economics and management globally and the only Chinese scholar to date to receive the “Royal Economic Society Prize.” He is among the first cohort of Young Scholars of National Talent Program (2015), recognized as an Outstanding Young Scientist in Beijing, and holds the title of Boya Distinguished Professor at Peking University. He serves as a member of the Ministry of Commerce’s Economic and Trade Policy Advisory Committee, a director of the Ministry of Finance’s “China-U.S. Research Think Tank Alliance,” an honorary professor at Irkutsk State University in Russia, and an international advisory board member at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis. Additionally, he is Vice President of the China Society of World Economics, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Quantitative Economics, Vice Chairman of the China Industrial Economics Association, Vice President of the National Society of Hong Kong and Macao Studies, a liaison representative of the Financial and Budgetary Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, Vice Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, and a member of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress. He has been appointed as an expert advisor by the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council, and various local governments. He was specially invited to deliver a report on China’s economic development at the United Nations Headquarters and is a recipient of the State Council’s Special Allowance. 

Professor Yu Miaojie specializes in international trade and China’s economic development. He has published over 200 papers in top-tier domestic and international journals, including The Economic Journal, Review of Economics & Statistics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Research Journal, and Management World. He has authored 32 books, including textbooks and commentaries in Chinese, English, and German. He serves as an associate editor of the prestigious international economics journal The Economic Journal, an associate editor of the renowned academic journal Review of International Economics, honorary editor-in-chief of the Ministry of Commerce’s International Trade journal, editor-in-chief of Journal of Liaoning University, editor-in-chief of Japanese Research, and executive editor-in-chief of Journal of Chang’an University.

He has received several prestigious awards, including the Ministry of Education Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences (three times), the Wu Yuzhang Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences Research, the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Award, and the An Zijie International Trade Research Award (five times). His representative work, Processing Trade and Firm Productivity, has been honored with the Liu Shibai Economics Prize, the Hu Sheng Young Scholar Academic Research Award, the National Trade Development Research Award, the China Young Economist Award, the Liaoning Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievement Award, and the Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, among others.

During Peking University’s 120th anniversary celebration, he was specially received by General Secretary Xi Jinping as an outstanding representative of young and middle-aged faculty members. He also participated in a high-level symposium chaired by then-Premier Li Keqiang as an exemplary representative of the 25th anniversary of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. In 2024, as a member of the National People’s Congress youth delegation, he visited the Federal Assembly of Russia and local legislative bodies. He attended the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection as a special supervisor of the National Commission of Supervision. Additionally, as a representative of leading Chinese university presidents, he participated in the China-Italy University Presidents’ Forum and the China-Belarus University Presidents’ Forum.
