The National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee just concluded their annual sessions on March 12 and 11, respectively. During the Two Sessions, President Yu Miaojie, a deputy to the 14th NPC, focused on youth-related issues. In an interview with China Daily, he proposed introducing spring and autumn breaks for primary and secondary school students. The article is reproduced below:

Topic: Introducing spring and autumn breaks for students in primary and secondary schools
This is an excellent idea. We should start with regional trials before considering a wider rollout. Spring break is already widely practiced in places such as Europe and the US, and it could help create a more balanced holiday schedule for children throughout the year. Right now, spring only has the short Qingming Festival, so adding a break would fill that gap nicely. Plus, having an extra vacation is beneficial for students, especially the younger ones. It would give them more time to rest and enjoy outdoor activities, which are important for their overall development.
Some have also suggested allowing working parents a spring break so they can take care of their children. While the intention is good, I’m concerned it might impact industrial output. So it should be dealt with great care.
