LNU Law Team Wins First Prize at National Level in 2026 ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition, Qualifying for The Hague Finals Week

The 2026 ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition was held offline at Central South University from April 10 to 12, 2026. A total of 130 university teams from across the country took part in this year’s contest, setting a new record for the number of participating teams since its launch, which also made the ICC Chinese Moot Court one of the largest and most influential international law moot court competitions in China. After the written memorial evaluation round, 60 teams qualified for the final oral rounds. Following two days of fierce courtroom debates, the team from the Law School, Liaoning University (LNU) won the National First Prize (4th place) in the 2026 ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition, continuing its outstanding streak of eight consecutive first prizes since first participating in 2018. Meanwhile, the team also claimed the Best Prosecution Written Memorial Award (3rd place) and the Best Prosecution Counsel Award (1st place), and student Fan Bingqian was awarded the Best Prosecution Counsel Oral Advocacy Award (2nd place).

 

 

 

 

The 2026 Liaoning University Team for the ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition was coached by Professor Gao Ning and Lecturer Su Bojia from the Law School. Fan Bingqian, an undergraduate student of the Grade of 2022, served as team captain, while Wang Qiran (Grade of 2022 undergraduate), Zhao Meitong (Grade of 2024 undergraduate), Wen Jiale (Grade of 2025 postgraduate) and Liu Meirui (Grade of 2025 postgraduate) served as official team members. Gratitude would also be extended to the supporting team members and previous team members who have cared about the team and provided valuable support and assistance.

 

Instructors

 

Gao Ning, Doctor of Law, Professor and Associate Dean for Teaching Affairs of the Law School. She has long been engaged in teaching and delivered more than ten undergraduate and postgraduate courses including International Moot Court Competition Training. In her teaching, she integrates value shaping, knowledge imparting and ability cultivation. She has received honors such as Liaoning Provincial “Undergraduate Teaching Master”, Liaoning Provincial “Outstanding Party Member of Higher Education Institutions”, Liaoning Provincial “Most Beautiful Teacher”, “Xingshen Talents Program” Teaching Master, and Shenyang “Advanced Individual in Teacher Ethics of Higher Education Institutions”. As a full-time faculty member, she has guided law school students in authoritative Chinese and English international law moot court competitions. From 2018 to 2026, her teams won the First Prize eight times in the ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition, achieving a grand slam of champion, first and second runners-up, and won the third place in the global finals in The Hague, the Netherlands. From 2019 to 2025, her teams claimed the First Prize three times and the Second Prize three times in the China Round of the ICC English Moot Court Competition, as well as the First Prize twice and the Second Prize twice in the JESSUP International Law Moot Court Competition Chinese Round. She has presided over a number of undergraduate education reform projects supported by the Ministry of Education and Liaoning Province. As a key member, she has participated in the first batch of New Liberal Arts Programs and the first batch of Virtual Teaching and Research Office Pilot Programs of the Ministry of Education. She is the person in charge of the Micro-major in Foreign-related Rule of Law at Liaoning University (selected into the Ministry of Education’s “Double Thousand Plan”), and the director of the Liaoning Provincial Innovation Base for Collaborative Cultivation of Foreign-related Rule of Law Talents. She has been awarded the Special Prize and the First Prize of Liaoning Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. The course International Moot Court Competition Training led by her has been recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Course and a Liaoning Provincial Demonstration Course for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Public International Law has been rated as a Provincial Demonstration Course for Ideological and Political Education in Curriculum. Applying her expertise in international law to serve society, her policy proposals and research reports have received important approvals at the provincial and ministerial levels, and she has won the First Prize of the Provincial Annual Conference of Philosophy and Social Sciences.

 

 

Su Bojia, Lecturer at the Law School, Doctor of Law, is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of criminal procedure law. She served as the coach of the Liaoning University team in the 2025 ICC Chinese and English Moot Court Competitions, where the English team won the Second Prize in the domestic round and the Chinese team won the First Prize and four individual awards in the domestic round. During her academic years, she participated in the ICC Chinese Moot Court Competition for many times as a team member and assistant coach, winning the champion in the domestic round and the third place in The Hague round.

Competition Process

During the preparation period from September 2025 to April 2026, team members adapted to the intensive rhythm of advancing alongside the ICC. Repeated in-depth research into literature and constant discussions via Tencent Meetings have silently borne witness to everyone’s efforts, documenting every bit of dedication and perseverance. With the care and support from the university and Law School leaders and faculty, teachers and students of the team forged ahead in unity and strove for excellence. Through continuous breakthroughs and steady accumulation, they ultimately reaped fruitful achievements.

In recent years, the Law School, Liaoning University, has continuously focused on the cultivation of foreign-related rule of law talents, set up a teaching experimental class for foreign-related rule of law talent training, and strove to build a contingent of compound and international legal talents. Adhering to the principle of promoting learning through competitions and facilitating practical application through learning, the college has steadily improved students’ legal practice capabilities and comprehensive quality by virtue of various high-level competitions. It is committed to fostering high-caliber foreign-related rule of law talents with a solid theoretical foundation in law, a strong sense of patriotism and social responsibility, as well as both moral integrity and professional competence, so as to continuously inject the strength of Liaoning University into the development of national foreign-related rule of law undertakings.
