On September 2, 2026, a delegation from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) visited Liaoning University(LNU). The delegation included Karin VANDERKERKEN, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation; Jacqueline COUDER, Director of the International Relations Office; Yue Gao, Head of Environmental Chemistry; Willy Baeyens, researcher of Analytical, Environmental and Geo-Chemistry (AMGC) ; Carlo DE ASMUNDIS, Chair of the Heart Rhythm Management Center at UZ Brussel (University Hospital Brussels); Kim DE VEIRMAN, professor Professor of School of Medicine and Pharmacy; and Xiaohong Tong, Head of Asia Network University Collaboration. Huo Chunhui, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Liaoning University, met with the delegation at Puhe Campus and held a meeting. The meeting was chaired by Xie Mingyi, Director of the Office of International Affairs.

Huo Chunhui welcomed the delegation and noted that cross-civilizational education cooperation between China and Europe helps young people broaden their international horizons and is of far-reaching significance for deepening cultural exchanges and people-to-people connectivity between China and Europe. Liaoning University and VUB share a long history of exchanges, and Liaoning University is ready to take the visit as an opportunity to promote cooperation between the two universities in such areas as international joint programs for cultivating innovative talent and applying for China Scholarship Council (CSC) programs.

Xiaohong Tong, Head of Asia Network University Collaboration of VUB, gave a brief introduction to the university. She noted that VUB has a long history, excellent international rankings, a favorable location, and a high level of internationalization, with international students accounting for 24% of the student body and most master’s and doctoral programs taught in English. Comprising eight faculties, the university has cultivated numerous renowned scholars and outstanding alumni over the years.

During the meeting, the two sides held in-depth discussions on areas of mutual interest, including multi-level joint talent training programs, faculty exchanges, research cooperation, and short-term summer programs.

The meeting was also attended by Ge Chunhua, Dean of the College of Chemistry; Hu Fengqing, Dean of the School of Life Sciences; Chen Lijiang, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and staff members of the Office of International Affairs.
