This year, for the first time since its founding, Liaoning University (LNU) welcomes over 10,000 new students covering undergraduate and graduate levels for a joint opening ceremony.

 

 

 

On the morning of September 10, 2026, the 2026 Fresh Student Opening Ceremony and Undergraduate Military Training Mobilization Meeting of Liaoning University was held at the stadium of Puhe Campus. Qiu Huanguang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of LNU, addressed the ceremony. Yu Miaojie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of LNU, attended the ceremony and delivered a mobilization speech for the military training. Zhang Hongxin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee presided over the event. Also in attendance were university leaders Huo Chunhui, Wang Peng, Lu Hui, and Lu Anhui; alumni; heads of administrative departments and their subordinate units, and schools and colleges; and full-time undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students enrolled in 2026.

 

 

The ceremony began amid the solemn sound of the national anthem.

 

 

Drawing on LNU’s four seasons, history, and circumstances, Qiu Huanguang offered students a vivid interpretation of its profound heritage and remarkable achievements. He noted that LNU’s spring nurtures a red cultural gene. Since its founding, the university has shouldered the mission of “born to serve the nation”. LNU’s summer radiates vitality for development. The university has stepped up its “Double First-Class” development efforts, building a platform for students’ growth, one that integrates literal arts and sciences and promotes mutual learning between China and the West. LNU’s autumn bears shining traces of dedicated efforts. With renowned scholars, distinguished experts, and solid infrastructure, the university has cultivated more than 370,000 graduates contributing to all walks of life. LNU’s winter stores up the inexhaustible energy that ever turns toward the sun. In the new era, the university continues to consolidate its educational strengths — rooted in Liaoning, oriented toward Northeast China, serving the whole country, and connecting with the world.

Qiu Huanguang broke down LNU’s eight-character motto — “Noble in Morality, Extensive in Learning, Tenacious in Action and Independent in Spirit” — into four keys to youth growth as a message for new students. First, build noble characters through virtue and nurture a sense of devotion to the country. Students should keep the country’s fundamental interests in mind, and closely link personal aspirations with the nation’s destiny. Meanwhile, they should cultivate qualities and virtues through small daily acts and persistent efforts over time. Second, take learning as the foundation and hone solid capabilities. He hoped that students would not limit their university learning to classrooms or majors, nor stop learning after graduation. Instead, they should pursue all-round development in morality, intellect, physical health, aesthetics, and labor to grow into well-rounded individuals. Third, practice knowledge through action and pursue practical innovation. He encouraged students not to be armchair critics who merely debate theories, but action-oriented doers. Fourth, clarify aspirations through self-improvement and shoulder the mission of the times. He hoped that students would strengthen their physical strength, mental resilience, and ability to achieve personal excellence so that they can devote their personal strength to the growth of LNU and the nation, translating every bit of knowledge acquired and every skill improved at LNU into concrete actions demonstrating their affection for their alma mater and dedication to the country.

Yu Miaojie delivered a military training mobilization speech. Centering his remarks on the great Long March spirit, he offered five message to the new students, encouraging them to treat military training as an ideological and political course for self-cultivation and to embark on the path of growth as young people in the new era. First, hold firm to ideals and convictions and start their youth on a sound footing. He hoped that students would take the training ground as a classroom for ideological and political education, remember the original aspiration of LNU’s predecessors to serve the country, integrate their academic pursuits into the grand cause of Liaoning’s comprehensive revitalization and China’s modernization, and let their youthful ideals take root in the motherland. Second, embrace hardships and take steady steps in scholarship. As new recruits, students should hold themselves to strict standards, fear neither hardship nor fatigue, turn the resilience forged in military training into the strength to overcome difficulties, remain undaunted by setbacks, and move forward with steady resolve. Third, uphold the spirit of seeking truth and march forward with integrity. They should carry the habit of respecting what should be revered and abiding by rules throughout their academic studies and personal interactions, carry forward LNU’s rigorous and pragmatic tradition of scholarship and education, and build a solid foundation of conduct for their lifelong development. Fourth, cultivate a broad‑minded vision and keep pace with the nation. He called on them to integrate their personal steps into the rhythm of the nation and tightly link personal prospects with the nation’s destiny to truly understand the meaning of “moving in step with the family and the country”. Fifth, nurture a commitment to public service and take solid steps to serve the people. He encouraged them to step beyond the campus, cultivate their commitment to serving the public, orient their life values through grassroots practice, and fulfill the noble mission of serving the country and the people with a broad vision.
