Liaoning University International Conference 2024
China Development and the Global Economy
(Supported by China Economic Review)

Over the past four and a half decades, China’s growth has been the envy of the world, and has contributed significantly to the global economic growth. However, the past ten years has proven to be challenging. The New Normal, population aging, trade friction, geopolitical tension, and COVID have all weighed heavy on China’s rate of growth. Though China’s commitment to the battle against global warming, the BRI, and the success in AI development are all hopes for the future, both domestically and globally.
In this challenging environment, China’s development needs to combine institutional reforms and industrial upgrade, stem the tide of deglobalization, and lower the tension geopolitically. This conference is aimed at bringing together leading scholars in the area to share and exchange ideas that would benefit both China and the world. We welcome submissions on, but not limited to, the following topics:
High-quality economic development of China
New Normality and Economic Stability
BRI and its global effects
Digital economy and digital trade
Digital transformation and labour market consequences
Population Aging and Fertility
Environment and sustainability
Change and upgrade of Chinese trade structure in the new era of deglobalization
Trade fictions and sustainable global supply chains
Openness of Northeast China and trade cooperation of Northeast Asia
China’s inward and outward foreign direct investment
Innovation and business development
Regional development and internal migration
New-type urbanization, social insurance and health care

Interested scholars are encouraged to send the full text or extended abstract of their research papers to the following email: lnuconference@163.com. Please use “Name + Institution + Title” as the email topic.

Conference Information:
There is no registration or submission fee for the conference. Liaoning University will cover the meals for paper presenters (one person per paper) selected to present at the Conference. The travel and accommodation expenses will be the responsibility of the presenter and other attendees. The local organizers will recommend hotels to all attendees and send pick-up bus between the hotel and the campus.
Special Issue:
The conference has secured a VSI (virtual Special Issue) at the China Economic Review (CER). CER is a SSCI journal, with an impact factor of 2.736 (2019), and in Q1 of the Scimago Journal Rank (SJR). It is widely considered as one of the TOP academic journals that focuses on the economic performance and policy of China, and its relationship with the rest of the world. Further details will be forthcoming.
