Secretary of the CPC Committee
Born in May 1964, Professor Pan Yishan is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a PhD supervisor. He obtained his PhD from Tsinghua University and is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Geology of the China Earthquake Administration. He is a senior visiting scholar at Michigan University, a winner of the National Talent Program, an expert enjoying special government allowance of the State Council, a national outstanding scientific and technological worker, and an outstanding talent under the Liaoning Revitalization Program. Currently he serves as Secretary of the CPC Committee of Liaoning University, is Director of the First Coal Mine Power Disaster Prevention Committee of the Council of China Coal Society, and Director of the Mine Rock Burst Committee of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering.
Academician Pan Yishan’s main research field is rock burst-related issues in coal mines. He has achieved remarkable results in the research of the occurrence, mechanism, prediction, and prevention of coal mine disasters such as rock burst.
Academician Pan Yishan has been engaged in the research of coal mine dynamic ground pressure control since 1984. He proposed the theory of dynamic ground pressure disturbance response instability and established the technical system of rock burst prevention and control. He successfully tackled key technical challenges in the prevention and control of coal mine dynamic ground pressure and developed a complete set of equipment for dynamic ground pressure prediction and control.
His research achievements, the technology of energy-absorbing hydraulic support to prevent roadway rock burst and the monitoring and forecasting technology of rock burst charge induction are included in the Promotion Catalogue of Advanced and Applicable Technology and Equipment for Coal Mine Safety Production. His self-developed hydraulic support, microseismic monitoring system, charge induction monitor, and other products have been widely used in China’s rock burst mines. His scientific research results have also been included in the ‘Detailed Rules for the Prevention and Control of Coal Mine Rock Burst’ and in other laws, regulations, and standards in China, and have been widely implemented in national rock burst mines, improving the national governance capacity on rock burst.
Academician Pan Yishan has won three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, two second prizes of the National Teaching Achievements Award and three first prizes of the provincial and ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award. In addition, he has published one monograph, granted 41 invention patents from China and the United States, and published more than 80 SCI/EI academic papers as the first or correspondent author, three of which were selected as the top 100 most influential domestic academic papers in China.
He has formulated and released six national standards on dynamic ground pressure and authored the comprehensive book Coal Mine Dynamic Ground Pressure of over one million words. He is the chief editor of Engineering of Dynamic Ground Pressure, which is a textbook used by undergraduate and graduate students in 19 universities in China. He has been honored as a national outstanding scientific and technological worker. In addition, he has received the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievements twice, the 2nd National Innovation Pioneer Award, the 14th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, and the Energy Award of the 31st Sun Yueqi Energy Science and Technology Award, among other honors.
