Abstract: The content of this paper comes from the recording of the lecture on “comparison between Chinese and Western Aesthetics” by the late famous aesthetician Professor Yang Enhuan (1928.12—2021.5). It involves a series of important theoretical issues such as the meaning, history, scope and methodological principles of comparison between Chinese and Western aesthetics, and constitutes an organic system with complete logic. Professor Yang believed that the so-called “comparative aesthetics” was actually “comparative study of aesthetics”, and the comparative research method of “seeing differences in the same and seeing the same in different” for Chinese and Western aesthetics could provide a reference frame or development force for the construction of contemporary Chinese aesthetics, and then promote the modernization and reconstruction of Chinese traditional aesthetics. The lecture was recorded in 1992, and now Fang Ming, a disciple of Mr. Yang, arranges and rewrites it on the basis of fully complying with the original intention of the lecture, with titles at all levels and necessary notes attached, in order to share this precious academic heritage with today’s academic circles.
