Abstract:Ecological footprint analysis is a new method used to quantitatively study the status of sustainable development in recent years. Using the ecological footprint method, the ecological footprint and ecological carrying capacity of Liaoning Province in 1995, 2000 and 2005 were calculated and analyzed, and the ecological footprints of Liaoning Province were compared with those of Guangdong Province and Hainan Province. The results show that the per capita ecological deficit in Liaoning Province has been increasing year by year, from 1.6538hm² in 1995 to 3.9330hm2 in 2005, and the increase in the consumption of fossil energy is the main reason for the increase in the ecological deficit. Countermeasures to reduce the ecological deficit and improve the capacity for sustainable development are proposed in the light of the specific situation of Liaoning Province.
