On the Absence and Construction of Chinese Female Identity in Amy Tan's Novels

Abstract: Postcolonial feminism combines postcolonialism with western feminism, pays attention to women in the Third World, cares for their living conditions, encourages them to struggle hard, and reconstructs their independent consciousness and identity. Amy Tan is a representative of Chinese American women writers. Her novels express her sympathy for Chinese American females by describing their miserable experiences in their native country and in foreign countries. She tries to arouse their self-consciousness, appeal for them to get rid of the double marginalization and reconstruct their independent identity. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to analyze the lack and construction of Chinese American women's identity in Amy Tan's novels from the perspective of postcolonial feminism.
