Abstract: Based on the materialist conception of history, Marx and Engels' thoughts on marriage and family point out the fundamental direction for the previous legislation and theoretical study on marriage and family in China. However, with the advancement of globalization and modernization, the concept, structure and model of marriage and family have undergone tremendous changes. Therefore, as the quintessence of the spirit of the times, it is of great significance to probe into the value of Marx and Engels' thought of marriage and family in order to promote the legal system of marriage and family in the era of "Civil Code." "Marriage and family are protected by the state," "freedom of marriage," "monogamy," "equality between men and women," and "protection of the legitimate rights and interests of women, minors, the elderly and the disabled" constitute the main system value of Marx and Engels' marriage and family thoughts in the era of the Civil Code.
