The Theme of Mother-daughter Relationship from the Perspective of Gender: a Comparative study of Mother-daughter Relationship Writing in "Mother and Daughter" and "Nowhere to Bid Farewell"

Abstract: From the perspective of gender perspective, this paper compares the mother-daughter relationship in two novellas written by famous British writer D.H. Lawrence and Chinese contemporary female writer Chen Ran's Nowhere to Say Goodbye. It aims to analyze how the two writers describe and decode the complicated mother-daughter relationship in modern society in their respective novels from different gender perspectives. This paper summarizes their different views on female subject consciousness in their respective works, so as to further explore the possibility of contemporary women walking out of the dilemma of mother-daughter relationship.
