Abstract: In order to understand the sustainable development and resource utilization efficiency of Panjin City in recent years, the ecological footprint, ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprint of ten thousand yuan GDP of Panjin City from 2002 to 2007 were calculated by using the ecological footprint model. The results showed that the per capita ecological footprint of Panjin increased from 5.13 hm2 in 2002 to 7.41 hm2 in 2007. The proportion of ecological footprint of various land types was from large to small, including fossil energy land, water area, cultivated land, grassland, building land and forest land. The per capita ecological carrying capacity decreased from 0.624 hm2 to 0.611 hm2. The ecological footprint per 10,000 yuan of GDP decreased from 1.93 hm2 in 2002 to 1.42 hm2 in 2007. Panjin City has been in the state of ecological deficit from 2002 to 2007, and the ecological deficit has an increasing trend. According to the research results, the paper puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions which are beneficial to the sustainable development of Panjin City.
